Our Team

Corinne Brion: Founder

Corinne Brion is an Assistant professor at the university of Dayton where she teaches intercultural proficiency courses. Corinne founded Turtle Up in 2023 to help the planet, the people, and generate revenues for turtle conservancy and the New Ningo community. Corinne is married to a Ghanaian and has worked for six years in Ghana where she led numerous leadership training in schools, created a train the trainer model with locals, and conducted extensive research. In the U.S. Corinne founded and was the principal of a charter school in Oregon. In summer of 2022, she was awarded a Fulbright fellowship and through her work at the University of Cape Coast, she has forged robust relationships with locals, academics, and practitioners in the Western region and in the New Ningo Prampram community where her family lives. Corinne holds a bachelor’s in international business and marketing from the Ecole Nationale de Commerce in Paris, France a master’s in education, and a PhD in Leadership. Turtle Up is Corinne’s passion project.

Dr. Mornah, Board Member

Dr. Mornah holds a Post-doctoral degree in International Business and Entrepreneurship from the University of Florida, a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Mississippi, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Ghana. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at Northern Kentucky University, working previously at the Virginia Military Institute as an Associate Professor of Economics and Entrepreneurship. His research focuses on migration, culture, entrepreneurship, and the interplay of institutions in national entrepreneurial outcomes. Dr. Mornah is originally from Ghana. As a result of his bicultural exposure, experiences, and expertise, he is passionate about connecting American and African businesses or entrepreneurs to explore opportunities and solve problems across national boundaries. To this end, he founded a few companies, including Saharan Economic and Financial Consortium and Saharan Business Frontiers, with which he facilitated the development of several projects ranging from energy, telecommunications, construction and manufacturing.

Kim Petro, Board Member

Kim Petro is a Certified Business Advisor, Certified QuickBooks Online Advanced ProAdvisor and owns her own business, Designed to Organize, LLC, where she is both the CEO and a Business and Financial Organizer. She envisions every business owner harnessing the power of their financial data to make sound and impactful business decisions every day. She is committed to helping business owners know and trust their numbers so they can ensure that their business’s financial future has a firm foundation. She knows that numbers are not the only thing that makes a business thrive. She also understands how businesses connect to the community and how their support is vital to the health and growth of the communities which they serve.  Kim has been instrumental in helping many small business owners succeed in her hometown of Dayton, OH and virtually across the US, through a unique combination of education on managing their QuickBooks Online file, advising business owners on accounting best practices, strategic business planning, QuickBooks Online Transitional Bookkeeping Services and being a connector to resources that business owners need to support and grow their own visions. Her latest endeavor is building a community of like-minded accounting professionals who excel in the clean up/catch up space to help even more small businesses have secure financial foundations to aid their business’s growth and sustainability.

Jessica Hunter, Board Member

Jessica Hunter is the Nonprofit Services Specialist at Dayton Metro Library. Her current role merges her passions: libraries and nonprofit work. She helps nonprofit rganizations find information on funders, proposal writing, and nonprofit management. She connects nonprofits to community resources and helps them access data and statistics that funders require. She has worked in a variety of library settings over 20 years, and has served as grants and donor relations manager for a local nonprofit.  Jessica has a Bachelor of Arts from Elon University and a Masters of Information and Library Management from the University of Bristol, England. She joined Turtle Up because she is impressed with Corinne’s passion and plan, and because her daughter loves sea turtles.  She looks forward to bringing her family to the turtle hatchery in Ghana one day.

Sekou Sheriff, Board Member

Sekou Sheriff works at the Global Partnership for Education at the World Bank. He is from Liberia and very passionate about the upward mobility of the African continent. Sekou holds a Bachelor’s in Finance from Bloomfield College in New Jersey and a Master’s in International Development from New York University. 

Cindy Shaw, Board Member

As an entrepreneur and small business owner, my professional journey has been driven by a passion for growth and an unwavering commitment to service. Having founded and managed a successful coaching business, I’ve recognized the importance of seeking guidance from branding and marketing mentors to foster its expansion. These experiences have equipped me with an understanding of business strategy, honed my leadership skills, and enhanced the transformative power of mentorship in achieving my professional goals.

Beyond my entrepreneurial endeavors, my life has been deeply rooted in service from an early age. Beginning with my volunteer work in 6th grade, supporting children with disabilities, I’ve consistently engaged in various community initiatives. Notably, as a lead volunteer for park cleanup initiatives in Charlotte and a committed contributor to Mama’s Kitchen in San Diego over the years, I’ve demonstrated an enduring commitment to making a tangible difference. These experiences have instilled in me a profound sense of social responsibility and a keen understanding of the importance of community engagement and outreach.

My extensive background in project management further complements my multifaceted skill set, enabling me to adeptly oversee initiatives and achieve tangible results. I am eager to apply my diverse expertise, entrepreneurial acumen, commitment to service, and project management proficiency in contributing meaningfully to the impactful initiatives of Turtle Up.

Daniel Anoi, Co-Founder, Board Member

Daniel Anoi is from New Ningo Prampram, Ghana. He brings cultural expertise and local connections to Turtle Up.  Daniel and his family are highly respected in the New Ningo Prampram community.  He currently lives in Ohio where he is a chef at a large software company. He is an avid soccer player and coach as well and has a special ability to communicate and work with young people.   Daniel joined Turtle Up because he believes in the mission and cannot wait to contribute to the conservancy of sea turtles through a community-based approach.

Anthony Talbott, Board Member

Tony Talbott is the Director of Advocacy of the Human Rights Center at the University of Dayton. He is co-founder and director of Abolition Ohio, the Miami Valley Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition. He also lectures in Human Rights, Political Science, and Sustainability. He serves on the Ohio Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Commission and researches and writes on Southeast Asia, nationalism, human rights and human trafficking. Originally from Dayton, Tony joined the military and served a total of 13 years in both the Army National Guard and the US Navy. He traveled extensively throughout the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean regions—including Asia, Australia, and Africa. While finishing his tour of duty he earned a BA in History and Government from Columbia College. He then left the service to attend graduate school. He earned an MA in International Affairs from Ohio University and studied for a PhD in Political Science at Arizona State University. 

Tom Shaw

Thomas Shaw, Board Member

Mr. Shaw’s career has been focused on leading and inspiring people and organizations to develop and execute successful strategies in business and government. During more than 30 years of working with the Financial Markets and Banking industries, Mr. Shaw has been responsible for services and technology sales, client relationship management, business strategy development, business partnership, and industry solutions development and execution. He has significant international business experience in the Financial Markets industry and has been published, interviewed, and spoken on many occasions about important issues facing this industry.

Jenn Stormer, Board Member

Jenn Stormer has been teaching Science/STEM for 25 years for Northmont City Schools. In that time, she has been recognized with several awards and distinctions  including Northmont Educator of the Year, Ohio Energy Project Outstanding Energy Efficiency Education Award, DRSS Education School Collaboration Award, and the 2022 District 3 Ohio Teacher of the Year award. In addition to her teaching role, she serves as the Curriculum Specialist for the elementary and teacher programs for Air Camp USA, a non-profit organization focused on STEM education. She has written extensive curriculum including co-writing the current Northmont STEM curriculum and numerous modules for Air Camp for students and adults alike. She has presented for both Northmont and Air Camp at numerous conferences including NSTA regional and National Conferences as well as local conferences in the Dayton area. In the summer of 2023, Jenn participated in UD/Central State University’s Global RET (Research Experiences for Teachers) program. Through this opportunity, she earned her Global Competency Certificate and worked with local faculty to learn about human-centered design. As a culmination, she participated in a  2-week immersive experience in Ghana learning about sustainability efforts being made in order to improve conservation efforts and reduce plastic waste. This experience has fueled her passion for sustainability education and efforts. In addition, she fell in love with the Ghanaian people and cherishes the connections she has made there. 

Jolie Wieland

Jolie Wieland is from Cincinnati, Ohio and has always been interested in languages, cultures, and global citizenship. From the University of Cincinnati Jolie has a BA in French language and literature, and a BA in Art History. While there, she also completed a study abroad in France, in international business. She taught English in a French public high school through the Teaching Assistant Program in France and then joined the Peace Corps. She spent three years working hand-in-hand with counterparts in a village in Morocco as a youth and community development volunteer. During this time, Morocco became a second home and Jolie learned the importance of partnership and sustainability. Jolie remains in contact with the community and family that hosted her and visits with them often. Upon her return from the Peace Corps, Jolie became an ESL, then French teacher. She holds a MA in Secondary Education and Principal licensure certificate from Xavier University. Becoming increasingly passionate about social justice and serving the needs of all of her students, Jolie earned her doctorate in Leadership for Organizations from the University of Dayton. She continues to promote global citizenship through cultural and linguistic studies as a classroom teacher and leads educational trips abroad to Quebec, France, and Morocco.

Margie Pinnell, Ph. D.

I am a tenured professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace engineering at the University of Dayton who is dedicated to advancing inclusive excellence in engineering through equity and access. I’ve held a variety of academic administrative roles during my 24 years at the University of Dayton including serving as the inaugural director of Ethos, the associate dean for faculty and staff development, and the interim dean in the School of Engineering. I am deeply involved in K-12 STEM through both funded research, and community outreach. I serve on the council for DO STEM, and on the board of WEPAN and Ohio PKAL. I’ve also been actively involved in many projects related to local and international community engaged learning.
